[Verbal n. of shim2, r.] The insertion of thin pieces of material to make two parts fit, or to fill out cracks or uneven places; also, the thin pieces so used. Shimming has been used in fitting on car-wheels when the wheel-seat of the axle was a little too small. Car-Builder's Dict. 5573
