— Stream-anchor. Is an anchor of about ’/« the weight of a bower and employed during calm weather for temporarily anchoring a ve el in deep water, to avoid the trouble of letting go and heaving up again a heavy bower. It is also made use of to a ist in getting a ve el afloat, when grounded; it is in this case taken into a boat, lighter etc., and carried some distance from the ship, sunk in deeper water, and the cable or hawser attached to it is then hove upon from the ship by means of a windla , capstan etc. See Plate 64 F.
