[Lat. frax ( in us )=an ash tree; -in (Chem.).] Chem. C16H18010. Paviin, a glucoside of Fraxetin, which occurs in the bark of Fraxinus excelsior , the common ash, also along with Esculin, in the bark of the horse-chestnut, Esculus hippocastanum . Its dilute aqueous solution has a bluish-green fluorescence. It is identical with paviin. It crystallizes in yellowish needles, easily soluble in hot water.
