(dik's hun-a-re.) [Fr. dictionnaire, from L. dic tio, a word or expre ion.] (Lit.) In the first and obvious sense, a vocabulary, or alphabetical arrangement of the words ina language, with their definitions. But, now that the various branches of science have become. somuch extended, the term is also applied to an alpha with betical such collection of explanations the or terms remarks of any as the art writer or science, deem nece ary for their elucidation.
