(har'pŭrz,) in W. Virginia, a town of Jefferson co., at the point of meeting of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers, 53 m. N.W. of Washington. This place was the scene of the raid led by the abolitionist John Brown (q. v.), in 1859. Pop. abt. 1,500. [s. 440]
