[Eng. mesid(ine); -ic.] Derived from mesidine. mesidic-acid, s. Chem.: C9H8O4 = C6H3(CH3) (CO2H) 2. A dibasic acid, intermediate in composition between mesitylenic acid, C9H1002, and trimesic acid, CoH6O6, prepared by oxidizing mesitylenic acid with a mixture of pota ium dichromate and sulphuric acid. It crystallizes in colorle shining needles, insoluble in cold water, slightly soluble in boiling water, but very soluble in alcohol and ether. It melts at 287 288°. Its pota ium salt, C9H6O4K2, crystallizes in shining lamine, very soluble in water. The silver salt is insoluble in cold, but very soluble in boiling water. Ethyl mesidate, CoH6O4 (C2H5)2, is a colorle radio-crystalline ma , insoluble in water but soluble in alcohol.
