(stud.) [From A. S. stu da.] A collection of stallions and mares kept for breeding purposes; also, a stable of horses used for racing and in the chase. (Building.) A small joist inserted between the posts in the sills and beams of a building, to sustain the beams or other main timbers. [s. 862]
