BILLINGS, JOHN SHAW

(18391914), was born in Switzerland co., Ind., and was educated at Miami University and the Medical College of Ohio, He later became demonstrator of anatomy at the latter institution, and during the Civil War served as surgeon in the U.S. Army. He later became medical inspector in the Army of the Potomac. He then was placed in charge of the library of the surgeon general’s office until appointed curator of the Medical Museum and Library, retiring in 1895.
