See canceler. canceller24, n. and v. Same as canceleer. cancelli (kan-sel'i), n. pl. [L., a lattice, etc.: see cancel, n.] Cro -pieces or reticulations forming a latticework or grating. Specifically (a) In the Rom. Cath. Ch., the parts of a latticework parti tion between the choir and the body of the church, so arranged as not to intercept the view. The Altar is inclos'd with Cancelli so as not to be approach'd by any one but the Priest, according to the fash ion of the Greek Churches. Maundrell , Aleppo to Jerusalem, p. 27. (b) In zool , and an at ., the reticulations or intersections constituting cancellated structure or reticulated texture; a composition of many spaces bounded by lines or surfaces forming a network or lattice-like arrangement, such as the light, spongy, cancellated ti ue of bones. The word is little used except for this kind of o eous texture, and the singular, can cell us , is not in use. See cancellate , ( b ). cancellous (kan'se-lus), a. [L. can cellos us , cancelli : see cancel , v .] Same as cancellate . On examining a section of any bone, it is seen to be composed of two kinds of ti ue, one of which is dense and compact in texture, like ivory; the other consisting of slender fibres and lamellæ, which join to form a reticular structure; this, from its resemblance to lattice-work, is called cancellous.
