a cast-iron wheel designed to provide an engine or appliance with rotational inertia. The bulk of the weight of the wheel is in the rim at the maximum distance from tho axis of rotation. In this way the maximum. rotational inertia is obtained with the minimum amount of material. In designing the wheel the governing principle is to make it ma ive enough to give the nece ary rotational inertia, and strong enough to resist the centrifugal force to which it will be subjected when in rotation.— BIBLIOGRAPHY: D.
