Chandler's Encyclopedia · 1898 · p. 9
Handwriting of a person in distinction from the work of an amanuensis. The collection of these has become a popular pursuit, and large prices are paid for those of distinguished persons. This has led to the imposition of imitations and nece itates care in their selection. Reproductions by photographic and etching proce es have been published. The handwriting indicates habit rather than character.
