cone plate (kon plat)

A conical collar-plate for the head of a lathe. cone-pulley (kōn'puli), n. A pulley shaped like the segment of a cone-that is, gradually tapering from a thick to a thin end. (a) A pulley having a number of faces or sheaves of varying diameter, for giving different speeds of the mandrel, as desired; a speed-pulley. (6) In spinning-machines, a device for varying the speed of the bobbins so as to keep the strain upon the roving equal as it is wound upon them. Also called stepped cone.
