The corner-store of the Capitol building at Washington was laid by President Washington, September 18, 1793. The north wing was completed November 17, 1800. The south wing was completed in 1808, and the interior of both was burned by the British, - August 24, 1814. Reconstruction was begun in 1815. The foundation of the main building was laid March 24, 1818, and the whole was completed in 1827. The act of September 30, 1850, provided for an extension. President Fill more laid the corner-stone of the extension July 4, 1851, and Daniel Webster delivered the addre , It was finished in 1867. 127
