Ellen borough

Edward, Law, Lord, an English lawyer Lord Chief Justice of the King’s Bench; born in ——S-_————— 1750 in Great Salkeld, Cumber land. He was educated at the Charter House and at Cambridge, and called to the bar in 1780. At the trial of ‘Warren Hastings, in 1785, he acted as leading counsel. The defense did. not come on till the fifth year of the trial, but after eight years Hastings was acquitted and Law’s succe a ured. In 1801 he was made attorney-general, and in 1802 became Lord Chief-Justice of the King’s Bench, and was created baron. He held the office of <a for 15 years, resigning in 1818, in which year he died.
