Occiput

(ok'se-put.) [L., from ob, and caput, the head.] (Anat.) The hinder part of the head.-Occipitis os, called also os memoriæ, and os nervorum, that bone which forms the posterior and inferior part of the skull. It is of an irregular figure, convex on the outside, and concave internally; and is thicker and stronger than any other of the bones of the head, except the petrous parts of the o a temporum. [s. 657]
