J., 1842; pastor of the Reformed Dutch Church at Ridgeway, Lenawee County, Mich., 1842-44 (he was its first pastor); at Ghent, N.Y., 1844-49; at Canajoharie, N.Y., 1849-50; at Millstone (Hills borough), N.J., 1850- 63; profe or of Oriental literature at New Brunswick, 1863-84; and since 1884 of Hellenistic Greek and New-Testament exegesis. He was one of the Old-Testament Revision Company from its formation. He is the author of Sermons on the Christian Life, New York, 1885.
