(ef'e-sus.) [Called Neōkor on, temple-keeper, from its devotion to Diana.] [Anc. Geog.) A celebrated ruined city of Asia Minor, anc. C. of Ionia, and seat of one of KAICAR the 7 Christian churches, the remains of which AN NER E ΝΕΛΚΟΡΟΝ Fig. 307.- COIN OF EPHESUS. (Exhibiting the head of the Emperor Nero, and on the reverse the temple of Diana, with Neōkor on underneath.) are found about 38 m. S.S.E. ofSmyrna.
