Univ. 1876-90; composed some mus.; chiefly known for analyses, critical e ays, The Story of Mozart*8 Requiem, and suggestive Philosophy of Music, contributor to Grove’s Dictionary Polko Elise Me Vogel], writer, b. Wackerbarthsruhe, near Dresden, Jan. 13, 1822; d. Munich, May 15, 1899. After studying with Garcia appeared at Frankfort as mezzo soprano; after marriage appeared in concert only; lived in various German cities; author of many novels PORGES in which appear characters of musical hist. best known are sentimental Musikahsche Marchen.
