HALL, ASAPH

(1829-1907), an American astronomer, 6. in Goshen, Conn. He graduated from the University of Michigan and after serving as instructor in several colleges was made profe or of mathematics in the United States Navy. He made several important astronomical discoveries including that of the two moons of Mars, which were named by him Dimos and Phobos.
