[Eng. prelat (e); -ry.] Prelacy. prěl-a-ture, subst. [Fr., from prélat =a prelate (q. v.).] The post, dignity, or office of a prelate; prelacy. "He never preferred to any prelature more than one ecclesiastical person who was allied to him."-Clarendon: Keligion and Policy , ch. v. 3223 prěl-a-ture-ship, s. [English prelature: -ship.) The same as PRELATURE (q. v.).
