siphonognathidæ (si fonognathide)

pl. [NL., thustralia, which is related to the Labride, but differs in specified. It is a rare fish. siphonognathoid (si-fō-nog na-thoid), n. and a. [ II. a. Of or relating to the Siphonognathidæ . Siphonognathus (si-fo-nog'nā-thus), n. [NL. (Richardson, 1857), σίφων , a tube, pipe, + γνάθος , jaw.] In ichth ., a genus of acanthopterygian fishes, characterized by the long sub tubular mouth, and typical of the family Si Siphonariacea (si-fō-nā-ri-a'sē-a), n. pl. [NL., same as Siphonariidæ. Siphonariidæ (sī fō-nā-rī'i-dē), n. pl. [NL., a broad bilobate head; eyes se ile on round folds of lining mantle. The shell dondiment branchiseforming triangulis patelliform, having a subcentral apex and a horseshoe shaped muscular impre ion divided on the right side by a deep siphonal groove. Nearly 100 species are known, from different parts of the world: they are most numerous on the shores of the Pacific. They live chiefly between tide-marks. siphonarioid (si-fō-nā'ri-oid), a. and n. I. a. Of or relating to the Siphonariidæ. II. n . A gastropod of the family Siphonariidæ . Siphon at a (si-fō-na'tä), n . pl . [NL., neut. pl. of siphon at us : see siphonate.] 1t. In entom., same as Hemipter a . 2. In conch ., a division of lamellibranch or bivalve mollusks, containing those which have one or two siphons.
