[TARANTULA.] tar'-gant, tor'-gant, s. [A corrupt. of torquent, from Lat. torquens, pr. par. of torqueo =to twist.] Her.: Torqued (q. v.). targets are generally square or oblong metal plates, and are divided into three or more sections -the bull's-eye, inner (or center), and outer, count ing from the center of the target to the outside. In some targets there is a fourth division commonly called a magpie (q. v.). target-bearer, s. Bot.: The genus Peltigera.
