CARNARVON, GEORGE EDWARD

STANHOPE, EARL OF (1866-1923), an Eng. nobleman and archeologist, who during 1922-23 was patron of the excavations carried on in Egypt under the direction of Howard Carter, which resulted, in December, 1922, in a discovery of the supposed tomb of Tut-Ankh-Amen.
