& s. [Lat. ischur (ia); English generaly found in verbs which have come through suff. -etic.] Pharmacy: A. As adj.: Having the quality of mitigating or removing ischuria. B. As subst.: A medicine fitted to mitigate or remove ischuria. Is-chür-I-a, is-chu-ry, s . [Lat., from Greek ischouria: ischō =to hold or curb, and our on =urine.] Pathol.: Suppre ion of urine occurs sometimes in teething, in hysteria, or some morbid cond i. tions of the blood, and is accompanied with pain, often severe. Le complete suppre ion is called retention of urine, and the local sufferings are more severe. Is-chy-d-dus, s. [ISCHIODUS.] Is-chyp-ter-us, s. [Gr. ischys strength, and pteron a wing, a fin; Lat. termination -us . Named from the size and strength of the fin.] Palæont.: A genus of fo il fishes found in the Trias of North America. Is-chyr-o-my-I-de (yr as ir), s. pl . [Mod. Lat. ischyromys (q. v.); Lat. fem. pl. adj. suff. -idœ.] Palæont.: A family of Rodent i a containing only one species of Ischyrómys (q. v.). Is-chyr-o-měs (yr as ir), s. [Gr. ischyros= strong, and mys =a mouse.] Palæont.: The typical genus of the family Ischyr omyide (q.v.). It is known only by a North Ameri can fo il rodent, Ischyromys typus , described by Dr. Leidy from remains found by Dr. Hayden in Miocene deposits in the "Bad Lands" of Wyoming.
