phyllo cyanin

[Pref. phyllo-, and Eng. cyanin(e).] Chem.: Fremy's name for the blue coloring matter existing in chlorophyll, and separated from it, by agitating with a mixture of hydrochloric acid and ether, the phyllo cyanin di olving in the former. It may also be prepared by boiling chlorophyll with strong alcoholic potash, neutralizing with hydrochloric acid, and filtering. On evaporating the filtrate, a dark blue ma of phyllo cyanin is ob tained. (q. v.).]
