WILLIAM ROWAN, 1805-1865. Irish mathematician, astronomer, and physicist. Prof. Univ. Dublin 1827; knighted 1835. He introduced, with Gra man, a new method of analysis, which he expour expounded in Lectures on Quaternions, 1852, and Elements of Quaternions, 1866. Hamilton, WILLIAM TIFFANY, 1820-1888.
