The term used by Vitruvius, and adopted from him in English, for the open vestibule of an ancient temple in the rear of the cella, corresponding to the pro naos at the front of the temple. In Greek architecture the proper name for this feature is opisthodomos. It has also been called epinaos. See cut under opisthodo mos, and compare anticum. 3. Eccles ., a reredos. postil (pos'til), n.
