genus of herbaceous plants or shrubs yielding cotton, go yp'ii cor'tex (N.F.), cotton root bark, the dried bark of the root of Go ypium herbaceum or other allied species; emmenagogue and oxytocic in doses of gr. 15-30 (1.0-2.0) or of 15130 (2.0) of the N.P. fluidextract. go yp'ii rad i'cis cor'tex (B. A.) cotton root bark, go ypii cortex (N.F.). g. purifica'- tum (U.S.), purified cotton, absorbent cotton, the hairs of the seed of Go ypium herbaceum and other allied species, freed from impurities and oil employed in surgical dre ings, for tampons, etc. g. styp'ticum (N.F.), styptic cotton; absorbent cotton wet with a dilute solution of ferric chloride, and then dried; applied locally as a hemostatic.
