PUPIL

(Lat. pupa.) A term applied to the central opening of the eye, because it reflects the diminished image of the person who looks into it. It is the central aperture of the iris. PUPIP.'YKES, Pupipara. (Lat. pupa and voro, 1 devour.) The name of a tribe of Hymenopterous insects, comprehending those of which the larvae live parasitically in the interior of the larvte and pupae of other insects.
