Edfou, or EDFU

Egyptian village on the Nile, lat. 25° N.; site of a temple of the Ptolemaic period which ranks as the best preserved ancient building in Egypt. The gateway is 50 feet high and the court beyond 161 feet by 140, and inclosed by 32 columns, supporting a stone roof. A new one was built on another part of the reef and half the old one was left standing. The light is at a height of 133 feet, 159,600 candle-power, and visible 17+ m.
