CHOKING

is caused by obstruction of larynx, (t.e.) top of windpipe, frequently due to piece of food; if acute, the mouth should be opened and the forefinger inserted to remove obstruction; if this fails, windpipe must be pierced in order to secure respiration; suffocation often occurs in this way.
