b. 1835. Ν.Α. 1869. American painter, decorator, and artist in stained gla . As a painter he is strongest in religious subjects. He has frescoes in St. Thomas and Ch. of the Ascension, New York, and has exhibited numerous sketches from Japan and the South Sea Islands. His finest talent has been shown in designs for wood-cuts in book illustration; e.g., Browning's Poems.
