[NL., Gr. ἀφωνία, speechle ne , [ aphonia +-ic.] aphonic (a-fon'ik), a. and n. 1. a. Pertaining to or characterized by aphonia; speechle ; dumb. II. n. A person affected with aphonia. aphonous (af'ō-nus), a. [ ἄφωνος , voicele , ἀ- priv. + φωνή , voice: see phonic .] Destitute of voice; voicele . aphony (af'ō-ni), n. Same as aphonia . aphoria (a-fo'ri-ä), n. [NL., ἀφορία , sterility, dearth, ἀφορος , not bearing, a- priv. + φορός, bearing, φέρειν = E. bear1 .] Sterility; unfruitfulne .
