When the Revolution broke out he was made a colonel in the Continental Army and as such fought at the Battle of Bunker Hill, and at Trenton and Princeton. Later during the war he had command of the famous ‘Green Mountain Boys,’ whose operations led to the surrender of Burgoyne at Saratoga. At the end of the war he was mustered out as a brigadier-general.
