Haydn

Joseph, the composer, was bom in 1732. He was a chorister at- St. Stephens, Vienna, and when his voice broke, he obtained a post as organist and took pupils. In 1791 he visited England, and wrote his Orpheus and Eurydice, and in 1798 the Creation. His chief merit consists in his having opened up a new development of instrumental composition.
