(iiu’-kle-in) [nucleus, nucleus], C29H49X9P3022. An amorphous substance resembling the proteids, and forming the e ential chemic constituent of all living cells. It is composed of Nucleinic Acid and a base; the former seems to be the same for all nucleins, but the base varies. Nucleins are generally insoluble in dilute acids and soluble in dilute alkalies. They are supposed to represent the germicidal constituent of blood-serum. 451
