FIELD OF THE CLOTH OF GOLD

a spot in the valley of Andren, between the English castle of Guisnes and the French castle of Ardres, celebrated for the meeting (7th June, 1520) between Henry VIII of England and Francis I of France, attended by the flower of nobility of both nations. The diplomatic results were little or nothing and the event is now memorable only as a grand historic parade.
