Huron

One of the Great Lakes of N. America, between Mich. and Canada. Its outlet is by St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair, and Detroit River, into Lake Erie. Area, including Georgian Bay, 22,322 sq. m., extreme length 263 m., extreme breadth 101 m., greatest depth 750 ft., mean depth ab. 200 ft., elevation 582 ft., drainage area 74,000 sq. m. Huronian. Series of contorted and metamorphosed stratified rocks, exposed over a region on the n. coast of Lake Huron and lying unconformably upon the Lauren tian. They are found also in several other parts of the world, and have yielded one or two doubtful fo ils. See COLUMN.
