CALCAR

(Lat. calcar, a sjmr.) This term is applied by botanists to all hollow prolongations downwards of leaves or the parts of a flower. The long hollow horns which hang down from one of the sepals of a Tropoelum, or from the labellum of an Orchis, or the curved bodies enclosed within the hood of an Aconite flower, are described by this name.
