"Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints," founded by Joseph Smith 1830; mostly polygamists, though a small fraction, headed by Joseph Smith, Jr., 1860, are monogamists. They settled at Kirtland, Ohio, 1831, then in Mo., and 1838 at Nauvoo, Ill., where Smith was killed by a mob 1844. After much persecution they migrated, led by Brigham Young, to Utah, where they founded Salt Lake City 1847, and IMG:content-1435.jpg:[graphic] IMG:content-1436.png:[graphic] Mosque of Omer in Jerusalem. dubiously identified with the mountain on which Abraham was restrained from sacrificing his son.
