Sir Philip Bowes Vere, a British admiral, born near Ipswich, Sept. 9, 1776; distinguished himself particularly in 1813, as commander of the “Shannon,” in the memorable action which that ve el fought with the United States ve el ‘“ Chesapeake ” off the American coast, and in which the latter was captured. He died in London, Jan. 2, 1841.
