Erg, or DYNE-CENTIMETER

Absolute C. G. S. unit of work. It is equal to the work done by the force of one dyne when it acts against resistance through the space of one centimeter. Roughly, it is nece ary to expend ab. 1 erg in raising 1 milligram 1 centimeter vertically against gravity. As the erg is a very small unit, it has been found convenient in practice to adopt certain multiples of it; e.g. 10o ergs form a megalerg or megerg, and 101o an ergten.
