Chorister, pupil of Monk; winner of Mendel ohn Scholarship 1865, studied at Leipzig under Moscheles, Hauptmann, Richter, and Reinecke; further under Best in Liverpool; condr. of Birmingham Philharmonic Union 1870-1886; of Birmingham Festival Choral Society after 1895; chorusmaster for festival 1897; examiner for Camb. Univ.; composed chamber mus., overtures, cantatas (Maid of Astolat), and several organ pieces.
