Greek god of fire, son of Zeus and Hera (or of Hera alone); born lame and weak, and flung from Olympus by his mother. Afterward hurled from heaven by Zeus, he fell a whole day, and alighted on Lemnos (being lamed by Patrick Henry. several States.
