a city of Washington, in Clarke co., of which it is the county seat. It is on the Great Northern, the Union Pacific and other railroads, and on the Columbia river. Its industries include the manufacture.of lumber sashes and doors, bricks, artificial stone, etc. It is the seat of the State School for the Deaf and Dumb, State School for the Blind, and St. James College. The city is the headquarters for the Military Department of Columbia. Pop. 1920, 12,637.
