an island in the W. of Arctic America, discovered by' ae in 1819, explored by Maclure. in 1850, and named Baring Island;; separated by Banks Strait from Melville Island, and by Prince of Wales, Strait from Prince Albert Land. | Banneret, an abbreviation for knight banneret; a member of an ‘ ancient order of knighthood. | Bannock, a tribe of North American Indians belonging to the Shoshoni stock, They are divided into two sec< tions, one inhabiting part of Nevada, and the other part of Montana.
