Carvel-built

A ve el or boat is carvel-built, when the edges of the planking or plating are fitted against, not overlapping each other. f) Cat-head. Cat-heads, are pieces of timber projecting beyond the bow of a ve el on each side; the outer ends are fitted with sheave-holes and sheaves, through which the cat-falls are roved; by these means an anchor is hoisted from under the hawse-pipe to the cat-head, and from thence by use of the fish-tackle, taken inboard.
