Counterlight

A light placed opposite to anything, which makes it to appear to a disadvantage. Countermand', v. a. [Fr. contremander; Lat.contra, and man do, to command.] To give a command or order contrary to a former one; to revoke or annul a former command; to oppose or repeal the orders of another; as, to countermand an order for goods. "For us to alter anything, is to lift ourselves against God, and, as it were, to countermand him." - Hooker. -n. A contrary order; revocation of a former order or command.
