Royal palace on the Thames, 15 m. w.s.w. of London; built by Wolsey 1514 and given to Henry Hampton Court Palace. VIII. Here, Jan. 1604, James I. held a conference which was unfavorable to the Puritans, but led to the translation of the Bible. Now occupied by indigent persons of rank. hibernates. It is very prolific and pugnacious, but is sometimes kept in confinement.
