ELIE FRÉDÉRIC, (fora,) a marshal of France, B. in Paris, 1801. He served with éclat in Algeria, and in the Crime a, commanded adi vision in the battle with the Austrians at Montebello (1859). He was appointed general-in-chief of the expedition against Mexico, 1862; took the capital of that country,1863; and was afterward created marshal of France, and resigned his command to Gen. Bazaine.
